Nicole Powrie

Director/Prosthetist/Orthotist

Nicole graduated La Trobe university in 2007 with a Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics. After practicing for several years in both public and private facilities across Australia and the UK, she set up our practice here on the beautiful Gold Coast. Nicole entered the profession as she wanted to work with people, as well as getting her hands dirty making braces and artificial limbs.

Nicole is passionate about finding and fitting the best devices for clients that meets each individual’s needs; helping them live their fullest and most active lives. She is experienced in all areas of Orthotics from public to private settings, acute to long-term, paediatrics to geriatrics.

Nicole enjoys all areas of Orthotics with a particular interest in acute injuries, OA and Ligament Knee Bracing and AFOs. As our practice is expanding Nicole is taking on more of a training and management role, whilst still seeing some orthotic clients. In her free time Nicole enjoys being outdoors, exploring the Gold Coast and hanging upside down at areal yoga.

 

Eliza Hart

Prosthetist/Orthotist

Eliza joined the team in 2021 after graduating from La Trobe University in Melbourne with a Bachelor of Applied Sciences and Master in Prosthetics and Orthotics.

She entered the profession with a passion for art, creating things and design while also being interested in physiology and anatomy. A hands-on career where she could be involved in the fabrication process really interested her. Eliza’s passion is to help enable people live the life they want and to encourage people achieve their functional and psychosocial goals.

Eliza enjoys getting to know people, working together to problem solve and build their individual solution from start to finish. She loves the balance between client interaction, hands on manufacturing work and researching into new possibilities to help our clients. She has developed a keen interest in all aspects of our practice with a particular talent for acute off-the-shelf orthoses, custom ankle foot orthoses, paediatrics, plagiocephaly helmets, spinal orthoses, and pectus orthotics.

Eliza is a Gold Coast local who enjoys being outdoors, fishing and spending time in the sun at the beach or out on her boat. She is also a, sewing & crafts enthusiast.

 

Ross Powrie

Director/Prosthetist/Orthotist

Ross is our Principal Prosthetist at Custom Prosthetics and Orthotics. After graduating from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in 2009 with a Bsc (Hons) in Prosthetics and Orthotics he started his career working with the NHS in Southwest England before moving to Australia in 2011. Ross has worked in a variety of prosthetic facilities from metropolitan centres of Brisbane and Melbourne to rural clinics in Cairns, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Maryborough.

In 2019 he established our Prosthetics practice here on the Gold Coast with Principal Orthotist Nicole. They built the practice from scratch (walls and all).

Ross works primarily with our Prosthetic clients, but you may see him around the clinic or popping into appointments from time to time to lend specialist knowledge or a hand where needed. Ross’ passion for helping people shows through in everything we do here at the clinic. Ross works to build long term relationships with our clients and loves seeing how the devices they have designed together let them live the lives they want.

When he is not building limbs, he is a long running volunteer leader at AmpCamp Australia and sponsors AmpCamp students from two Australian Universities (LaTrobe and USC).

 

Charlotte Mills

Administration

Charlotte is our friendly face behind the reception desk here at Custom Prosthetics and Orthotics. She graduated in 2009 with a Psychology Bsc (Hons) from the University of Exeter and has had a varied career across several different organisations, including Workforce Planning for the Commonwealth Games, and working in Merchandising for several leading retailers in the UK and Australia. With over 13 years office, administration, and management experience she is excited to be able to apply herself to a more client facing role and work in an industry which helps improve people’s lives.

Charlotte will be here to welcome you to your appointment and give you all the information you need prior to seeing one of our clinicians.  Charlotte’s focus is your care and experience with us while keeping our behind-the-scenes business running smoothly.

She enjoys the busy and varied nature of the role, especially being part of a local family business whose core values centre on helping others improve their lives. In her spare time, she loves paddle boarding, swimming in the ocean and teaching Yoga.

 

Sarah Clappers

Technician

Sarah is our technician here at Custom Prosthetics/BraceFit. She has an extensive background in perioperative orthopaedic nursing, specifically orthopaedic trauma and spine. She graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing in 2010 from RMIT university and completed further study at Deakin University in 2013 gaining a postgraduate diploma of perioperative nursing. After working as a nurse for 11 years Sarah wanted to upskill and try something new. Moving interstate from Melbourne she joined us here in 2021.

Sarah works behind the scenes here at Custom Prosthetics/BraceFit as our technician. She enjoys utilising different tools and materials to fabricate sockets and AFOs. She specialises in the fabrication of diagnostic sockets, but you can find her lending a hand across the custom manufacturing process of orthoses and prostheses.

When she is not with us Sarah continues to work as a nurse and in her spare time enjoys all forms of aerial acrobatics.
