Orthotics

An Orthosis or Orthopaedic brace, is an externally applied device that is designed and fitted to the body to achieve one or more of the following goals:

  • Protect and support an injury
  • Immobilise a fracture / broken bone
  • Reduce pain
  • Control biomechanical alignment
  • Assist in rehabilitation
  • Increase mobility

An Orthotist is a university trained Allied Health Professional who specialises in the design and clinical applications of orthotic devices to the human body.

At BraceFit, our clinicians are registered members of the Australian Orthotic Prosthetic Association (AOPA) and follow annual professional development guidelines to ensure the care you receive is directed by the most current research and industry standards.

As our clinicians are AOPA members, clients are eligible to receive rebates through their Private Health Insurance.

BraceFit operates an appointment only service. We believe that each individual client deserves the full care and attention that can only be provided by a uninterruppted clinical setting.

To book an appointment or enquire about our service please contact us by:

  • Phone: 0421 606 808
  • Email: info@bracefit.com.au

To simplify your assessment and treatment, it’s a good idea to bring any relevant information that can help us choose the right brace for you.

If you have any of the following, please bring them to your initial appointment:

  • Referral from your doctor or health care professional
  • Any relevant medical documentation including:
    • X-Rays
    • Clinical reports
  • (if appicable) Private Health Insurance, Work Cover or Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) details
  • Crutches, walking frames or mobility aids that you need to get about with

Referrals from your GP, Medical Specialist or Healthcare Provider play an important role in your orthotic treatment.

A referral will:

  • Contain important information about the location, type and severity of the injury
  • Have the details of your doctor or specialist in the event that we need to discuss your case further with them
  • Allow you to claim a rebate from your private health insurer.

Not everyone requires a referral to see us, so if you are interested in making an appointment please contact us for further advice.

If you are not allowed to / can’t walk and that is why you require the brace please let us know before your appointment:

  • We do not sell crutches. If you require crutches please organise them before you attend your appointment.
  • We do not have wheelchair access:
    • If you are in a wheelchair please let us know so we can organise alternative arrangements

Your private health fund will require the following information when applying for a rebate:

  • Referral from the doctor or health care specialist
  • Receipt from BraceFit

Ways to claim:

  • Visit your Private Health Insurer’s shop front
  • Email the referral form and receipt to your private health fund

Most private health funds will not accept online forms fro Orthotic rebates. In addition, braces/orthotic devices are unable to be billed through Health Industry Claims and Payments Service (HICAPS). All rebate claims must be done through your Private Health Fund after the appointment.

Every person and every Private Health Fund is different, so we have no way of telling the rebate you will receive.

If you would like to know before your appointment we would advise you:

  • Contact us for a description of your brace
    • Please note braces have desciptions, not item numbers
  • Call your Private Health Insurance Company to ask how much they will reimburse you

If you have extras cover, most braces should be covered.

Please contact us and we will make sure there is no other way to make a claim through your individual fund.

If you are covered by WorkCover please inform us before you attend you appointment and bring the following with you:

  • WorkCover company details
  • Claim number
  • Contact number
  • Name of case manager
  • Referral from Health Care Provider

As long as your case has been approved we can fit the brace at your appointment and charge WorkCover directly.

If your case hasn’t been approved we will charge you on the day. Once your claim has been approved you can send your receipt and referral in for reimbursement.

If you are covered by Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) please inform us before you attend you appointment and bring the following with you:

  • DVA Card
  • DVA number
  • Referral from Health Care Provider

If you have an acute injury (eg. fracture/break) we can fit the brace to you at your appointment and charge DVA directly.

If you have a long standing injury (eg. Knee Arthritis) we have to:

  • Book you in for an initial appointment / assess you for the appropriate brace
  • Send a request to DVA for the brace
  • Once the request is approved we will contact you and book an appointment
  • We will fit the brace to you and bill DVA directly
