About CAM Walkers

Designed to immobilise the foot and ankle.

At BraceFit, we select and custom fit our CAM Walkers / Moon Boots to ensure optimal healing of fractures, ligament and soft tissue injuries.

To make sure our clients have the best fitting and most suitable moon boot for them, we book each person in for an individual appointment with our qualified and experienced Orthotist.

Advantages of a Moon Boot:

Immobilisation:

Protection from further injury, promote faster healing and decrease pain and swelling.

Removable:

CAM Walkers / Moon Boots can be easily removed for showering / sleeping. (consult your doctor or specialist first)

Weight Bearing:

Allows the wearer to either partial or fully weight bear depending on injury. (consult your specialist or doctor first)

Maintain Function & Mobility:

 

Allows the wearer to remain active and get on with their daily lives.

Eliza Hart

Prosthetist/Orthotist

Eliza joined the team in 2021 after graduating from La Trobe University in Melbourne with a Bachelor in Applied Sciences and Master in Prosthetics and Orthotics. She has over 5 years’ experience, including placements in Melbourne and Brisbane, as well as working clinically here with us. 

Eliza entered the profession as she has a passion for art, creating things and design, while also being very interested in physiology and anatomy. A hands-on career where she could be involved in the fabrication process really interested her. Eliza’s main goal here with us is to help enable people live the life they want and to encourage people achieve their functional and psychosocial goals. The aspects she likes the most about prosthetics is that she can get to know people, work together with clients, problem solve and make something from start to finish. She loves the balance between client interaction, hands on plaster and manufacturing work, along with report writing and research.

Eliza mainly sees our orthotics clients currently but is passionate about prosthetics. You will see her in appointments from time to time as she gains experience learning about both lower and upper limb prostheses from our lead prosthetist Ross. 

Eliza is a Gold Coast local who enjoys being outdoors, fishing and spending time in the sun at the beach or out on her boat. She is also a, sewing & crafts enthusiast.

Nicole Powrie

Director/Prosthetist/Orthotist

Nicole graduated La Trobe university in 2007 with a Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics. She has over 15 years’ experience in both public and private facilities across Australia and the UK. She entered the profession as she wanted to work with people, as well as getting her hands dirty making braces and artificial limbs.

Nicole has a number of years’ experience focussing on transtibial rehabilitation clients. More recently she mainly works with our Orthotic clients, but you may see her popping her head into an appointment now and then. She is passionate about finding and fitting the best devices for clients that meets each individual’s needs; helping them live their fullest and most active lives.

In her free time Nicole enjoys being outdoors, exploring the Gold Coast and hanging upside down at areal yoga.

Charlotte Mills

Administration

Charlotte is our receptionist and administrator here at Custom Prosthetics and Orthotics. She graduated in 2009 with a Psychology Bsc (Hons) from the University of Exeter and has had a varied career across a number of different organisations, including Workforce Planning for the Commonwealth Games, and working in Merchandising for several leading retailers in the UK and Australia. With over 13 years office, administration, and management experience she is excited to be able to apply herself to a more client facing role and work in an industry which helps improve people’s lives.

Charlotte will be here to welcome you to your appointment and give you all the information you need prior to seeing one of our clinicians.  Charlotte’s main focus is your care and experience with us, but she is also busy behind the scenes keeping the business running smoothly. She enjoys the busy and vaired nature of the role, especially being part of a local family business whose core values centre on helping others improve their lives. In her spare time, she loves paddle boarding, swimming in the Ocean and teaching Yoga.

Sarah Clappers

Technician

Sarah is our technician here at Custom Prosthetics/BraceFit. She has an extensive background in perioperative orthopaedic nursing, specifically spine. She graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing in 2010 from XXXX university and completed further study in 2013 gaining a postgraduate diploma of perioperative nursing. After working as a nurse for 11 years Sarah wanted to upskill and try something new. Moving interstate from Melbourne she joined us here in 2021.

Sarah works behind the scenes here at Custom Prosthetics/BraceFit as our technician. She enjoys utilising different tools and materials to fabricate sockets and ankle and foot orthoses. She specialises in the fabrication of diagnostic sockets, but you can find her lending a hand across the custom manufacturing process of braces, ankle and foot orthoses and prostheses.

When she is not with us Sarah continues to work as a nurse in Brisbane and in her spare time enjoys all forms of aerial acrobatics.

Nicole loves coming to the practice every day; she is passionate about finding and fitting the best devices for clients, that meets each individual’s needs; helping them live their fullest and most active lives. She is experienced in all areas of Orthotics from public to private settings, acute to long-term, paediatrics to geriatrics. 

Nicole enjoys all areas of Orthotics however, is particularly interested in acute injuries, OA and Ligament Knee Bracing and Paediatric Orthotics including AFOs, Pectus Carinatum and Plagiocephaly. As our practice is expanding Nicole is taking on more of a training and management role, whilst still seeing some orthotic clients. In her free time Nicole enjoys being outdoors, exploring the Gold Coast and hanging upside down at areal yoga
